MARKHAM - Pistolas FC solidified their lineup this past week, drastically improving their lineup for the upcoming season with key signings.
The team also confirmed the loss of key players Andrew Eppich and John Shipley. Andrew, who showed great promise in camp prior to last season, must have took someone's comment, "go break a leg" literally, as he did and was out for the majority of last season. When he did practice and play he was a team favourite and though he has recovered, other commitments have kept him out of the lineup for this year. John also added an impact last year, when he was there, but like Andrew has other commitments this year, though we hope to see both in attendance from time to time cheering on new Captain Charles Eppich and the boys.
Steve K. will also not return after quite a bitter-sweet end to last years final championship winning match. In that game, Steve had his foot stepped on and subbed off. Hoping it would shake off he let it linger on. It appears now as if he broke 2-3 bones in his foot that eventually led to an undisclosed period time off and a pain - problem - that has continued and will end up costing him this year. We all wish the best for Steve, and hope he gets better. He too has told me personally that he's looking forward to watching from the stands this year, so lets give him some victories, and may take on a role as Substitution Manager. Colin 'Pizza Box for Shin Pads' will also not be returning this year.
So with these openings, the team looked to address key areas, such as experience, defence, youth, and fitness.
The Picheca Wall
In steps sweeper superstar Rocco Picheca offering to bring along brothers Luciano and Gerry - both defencemen - and if they're anything like Rocco, then the wall is up indeed.
And as we lose Andrew Eppich, in steps two new Andrews to the team. Playmaking defencemen Davidinho signed Andrew Traetto, an eager striker, who at 24 is the youngest player on the team and provides youth, stamina, and fitness to the team. Eddie Moss signed another Andrew, in Andrew Faridani, who could be a dark horse on the team since pistolasfc.com doesn't know much about him just yet.
Finally, news on the goaltending front is still in the works, with some exciting news to report in the coming days. Stay tuned.
