MARKHAM - The transfer market has started to heat up again, just in time to melt those winter blues away.

Earlier this week we told you that Keeper Mark Cinerari was back, which helped the discussions with our yet to be named player. The imminent signee brings top fitness to the team, strength, and experience. More on this later this weekend.

Alas, everything comes with a price, and there will be some big shoes to fill. In a tearful press conference at The Duchess this evening, midfielder David Breau announced his retirement.

Breau had been a strong, fierce, competitor giving his all 110% of the team and often playing through the pain of injury. One can recall the loud sound he made on the ball when he went in for a challenge against an opponent. His speed, vision, stamina and love of the game will be gone but not forgotten.

"David Breau has been a great teammate and a good leader in the dressing room. Off the field, the team will definitely miss his wit and humour," said Romerinho, "but this isn't goodbye as he's a Pistola for life, and I'm sure we'll see him at The Duchess."

In other news, Andrew 'Big Laser' Eppich will not be returning to the team after a year hiatus - also citing retirement - as confirmed in a conference call from cottage country earlier in the day.

TORONTO - It's like Plaxico Buress all over again.

Another day, another player getting caught up in things deemed detrimental to the team; only this time it's 2007 First Team All Star Defender Jason Shumski and Pistolas FC.

After playing through injury in most of 2008, Jay Shumski saw his appearances in 2008 dwindle from his ironman efforts of 2007. Finally in late July/early August, Shumski conceeded on advice from the physio that his ankle just wouldn't heal without rest and an all out stoppage of soccer.

But in a last ditch effort to solidify 3rd place, Shumski showed loyalty when he took to the field in the last game of the regular season only to re-injure his ankle, forcing him from the game, and out of the playoffs.

Citing the need for his defence, skill, and stamina, PFC was thankful for his efforts, and told him to rest up over the offseason in time for training camp next spring.

However, just this past weekend, pistolasfc.com learned that Jay Shumski has severely injured his ankle yet again, playing indoor soccer, a move clearly unsanctioned by the team and which clearly violates the terms of his contract. The worst part is, he never even informed the team which seems all a little reminiscent of a certain Monta Ellis of the NBA's Golden State Warriors. In that case, Monta injured himself riding a motorcycle, but wasn't up front with his team because he was in violation of his contract. He later got a team 3 month suspension.

In keeping with precedent of long suspensions set by teams like the Golden State Warriors for violating contracts, pistolasfc.com has learned only minutes ago that Pistolas FC has suspended Jay Shumski for 4 months. The terms of the suspension are effective immediately, and Shumski is expected to return April 8th, just in time for the game tentatively set for BMO Field on April 9th, 2009.

In the meantime, it should give Shumski sufficient time to heal and get the much needed rest to thrive on the field next season.

MARKHAM - Christmas came early for members of the Pistolas FC organization as they got a much needed gift.

Reigning 2008 MVP of the Year, Mark Cinerari, agreed to re-sign with the club turning down offers from the likes of Juventus and various Woodbridge clubs. The All-Star Keeper was tops in the league, and brings a resonating sigh of relief to his teammates.

Resting his ribs this offseason, Mark C will rejoin other defensive stalwarts Rocco, Dookie, and Jay Shumski on defense, making the 2009 squad committed to defense and garnishing the confidence of the team.

Re-signing Mark C brings the total number of re-signed players to 12. And they are:

1. Mark C 2. Romerinho 3. Ivano 4. Davidinho 5. Charles 6. Carlos 7.Steve 8. Dookie 9. Shumski 10.Eckleton 11. Rocco and 12. Luch.

The team is also currently in negotiations with Arbi, Gus G., and 2007 MVP Eddy Megurian. Stay tuned!

Saturday, December 6, 2008

TORONTO - Coming as no surprise to any PFC fan, teammate - or anyone in the league for that matter - Pistolas FC superstar keeper Mark Cinerari was named team MVP.

A fan favourite for his acrobatic saves, Cinerari was attributed by teammates as the most dominant piece of the puzzle in helping Pistolas FC compete week in and week out. Sporting a combined keepers goals against of only 23 - good for second in the league - Cinerari only let in 13 goals in the games he played and had 5 shutouts as well, making him hands down the top goalkeeper in the league.

"Aside from the phenomenal stat sheet, Mark truly lived up to the hype. Many times on the bench I found myself, the fans, and even the other team oooing and ahhinng at some of his unbelievable grabs. He definitely kept us in there each game especially when we were sluggish to start, so essentially he brought us the wins. And that's why he is the 2008 MVP," said Romerinho.

PistolasFC.com fans, after spending the last number of weeks on hiatus, we are back from our recent trip to South Africa where we were checking out the developments for the 2010 World Cup.

While we were there, we held a mini-camp in Cape Town where prospective new PFC recruits came out to show there stuff.

Now, before we left, we were kindly given a
Nike 10R Magician Ball and a Kwikgoal Coaching Notebook from our friends at SoccerPro.com, which we decided to take with us to Cape Town to use at our mini-camp; and let me tell you, we were quite impressed!

First off, we tested out the
Nike 10R Magician Ball. The 10R ball (named after #10 himself – The Magician – Ronaldinho), is crafted in the same colours and in the same texture as the black Nike Tiempo Ronaldinho shoes worn by the world class players alike including A.C. Milan’s Ronaldinho himself, as well as Pistolas FC striker Romerinho.

The most interesting and distinguishing characteristic of the Nike 10R is the 12 panel design. At first the squad was skeptical that a 12 panel design would serve well as the inclination was that it would affect bent kicks on set plays and corners. There was also doubt that a ball designed so “beautifully” that it looked more like a showpiece would have the construction fit for match play. Well let me set the record straight and say all this doubts were quickly put to rest.

We decided to use it in the opening Lions vs. Tigers match, and in addition to showcasing the African talent on the field, the Nike 10R stood out to players, fans and staff alike.

Playing for the Lions, I found myself content with how comfortable it felt to the touch and was responsive to receiving/trapping the ball coming in at high rates of speed. Other balls – even premium match balls – sometimes tend to go overboard on cushioning so much so that they affect the key elements of the game such as trapping but not the 10R. It was firm but match suitable when it came to delivering a hard pass or a rip hard shot on target. I still can’t get over the fact that it’s a 12 panel ball, which in my opinion looks aesthetically good in the looks department, but it totally exceeded not only my expectations, but also those of all the camp members when it came to bending the ball. Corner kicks with the 10R turned from a banana into more of a capital ‘C’. At first our corners were off the mark with this curve, but adapting to this, it made for some interesting free kicks for the offense, and a more than difficult time for the walls and our keepers. Speaking of which, our keepers found the detailing and raised texture of the ball to be helpful in gripping – whenever they did manage to get a glove on it that is.

Final point, given its black colour, one would anticipate it would heat up quite a bit, but under that African sun it held it’s own and was not exaggeratedly hot by camps end.

Overall, we’re quite impressed with the 10R, as it withstood over a months long worth of battery from plenty of players, impressing as it went along and staying true to form after quite a beating and many a match. I would definitely recommend the 10R to any soccer fiend.

As for the Kwikgoal Coaching Notebook, well, there’s not much too it. Simple, pretty straightforward yet, its simplicity and design were what appealed to me the most. Basically, it features facing pages whereby the left offers a diagram of the field followed by two empty columns to be used however you see fit. On the facing page was just a lined sheet.
I used some pages with the diagrams to set line and underneath used the empty boxes as a way of managing players, cards, time, and stats. On other pages, I used the diagrams to design a play whether it be a set piece or as a change in strategy.

The lined side was used for notes mainly on players and their performance, but of course can be used to whatever you want to write down.

Again, simple, well laid out and effective. The only thing I would have appreciated was perhaps more blank field diagrams at the end of the book, but that was just me thinking ahead to the winters indoor scrimmages, where off the cuff plays rapidly come to my mind and I need to constantly draw them down in order to adapt to unchartered or well rehearsed strategies of opponents.

Once again, thanks to our friends at
SoccerPro.com and to all the African and PFC players who showed up to camp and put on a great show!

MARKHAM - It was a sunny evening that capped off a rain drenched season, and consistency won out in the end with the Markham Crush taking their first championship.

First off, in the third place game, Solun FC and Markham Dynamos squared off in a very hard fought game with Solun FC winning 3 to 2 over Markham Dynamos, to capture the consolation third place final.

In the Championship Final, Markham Crush won 2-0 over Limeys FC. Limeys FC came very close a few times to score but luck was just not in their corner last night.

That wraps up the 2008 season, but work at Pistolas FC is never done. PFC will be anouncing some new additions sometime this week, along with its continued pursuit to re-sign Eddy M.VP and Star Keeper Mark Cinerari. Stay Tuned!

Monday, September 15, 2008

MARKHAM - A tightly fought penalty shoootout quarter final match between Markham Crush and Solun FC, was nowhere to be found in the semi-final rematch this past Sunday night.

Advancing on the "wild-card" to cause an awkward rematch from the quarter finals, Solun FC were definitely not their usual selves as the Markham Crush cruised to victory with a 6-0 shalacking of the boys in white.

The victory puts them into the finals for the first time in league history. And with their first place league finish and semi-final decimation, they have got to be the clear odds on favourite to win the Centennial Cup Championship this coming Sunday.

In the other semi-final, Limey's FC - the first team this season to give the Markham Dynamo a run for their money - played the very same Dynamo team and pulled off the upset in a well battled mud match played in the rain of Ike.

With a 3-2 victory in regulation, Limey's FC also move on to the final for the first time in their club and league history.

The Markham Dynamo and Solun FC will play at 5pm at Centennial Field, in the consolation final for third place. These two powers will play in what could be considered a rematch of their 2007 Centennial Cup Final, however, with lesser stakes.

In the 2008 Centennial Cup Championship Game, Limey's FC will face Markham Crush in what should be billed as an interesting match.

The Markham Crush suffered only 2 losses all year; the first a crushing, decisive victory by a thin benched Pistolas FC squad; the second against the very same Limey's FC. Both the Crush and Limey's finished in the top four in the least goals against category, so expect a tight, defensive battle.

One can only imagine a well played game, and the experts at pistolasfc.com predict a 1-1 draw going to a shootout, where the Crush win due to a consistent goalie between the posts.

Game time, Sunday 7:00pm, Centennial Field.

TORONTO - Player-Owner Romerinho's return to the 2009 Pistolas FC roster is in doubt, after examining the '09 calendar and realizing he may miss between 6-9 weeks of the 16 week regular season due to International Duty.

Also, should the league decide to change its format regarding the number of games in the season, when the season begins, or whether or not one, two, or all long weekend games would be removed from the schedule as in other leagues, then that may affect his decision as well.

"It may not be until January or February at the earliest by the time I make a firm commitment or not to the club for the 2009 season. Of course, by revamping the roster, I'd expect that the club would proceed through the playoffs, where I'd be able to contribute from Round 1 onwards upon returning from some training, conditioning and playing in Europe," said Romeirnho.

"But to be fair to the club, and in the midst of Eckleton's move to the midfield, we will be searching for a quality striker who can find the net often."

Other rumours have circulated that another option for him would be to coach the team in the weeks leading up to his departure for Europe. And he'll be able to bring back some techniques and strategies from his tour as well.

Any which way, it will be an extremely tough decision for the man, the heart and soul of the team, to make within the coming months.

TORONTO - He got hurt in the 2008 preseason at BMO Field in Toronto. Running onto the pitch, his ankle rolled. He was never the same. But, being Ivano the "Raging Bull" Volpe, he roared on game in and game out playing through injury, and playing his game.

And he was effective. Playing through pain, he never showed it on the field, always charging, tackling, and dribbling the ball up the right flank, ever so often creating chances in the middle for the strikers.

A consistent, reliable player, the Raging Bull was a critical team member who gave the team chances to win every game. Often the victim of dirty opponent tackles, the Bull has always showed toughness and continued to fight for the ball, even though a card should've been given out.

Towards the latter part of the season, however, the injuries took a toll, claiming his groin, and causing severe shin splints that ultimately caused his absence from the Round 1 playoff game.

He'll be working on rehabilitating the many injuries he suffered during the offseason, and once cleared, will be hitting the gym regularly to regain fitness and speed. His presence in the midfield will be a welcomed return.

Also, 2009 will prove to be an exciting time for the Raging Bull, as he will also be gone for a few weeks overseas in July on International Duty.

One of the co-founders of the Pistolas FC organization, the Raging Bull is entering the 5th year of his eternal deal with the club. Previously, both he and Romerinho both played for Inter in the late 1990's, before venturing to play in Asia - Japan - and then returning to Canada to start Pistolas FC alongside Davidinho.

TORONTO - After all the rumours, chiefly his own, Ecuadorean midfielder Carlos Quinto has decided to not even to consider moving to FC Barcelona or Real Madrid, in favour of returning to a storied franchise in its own right, Pistolas FC.

Perhaps it was the lack of interest from the Galacticos or Messi's men, or perhaps his passion for playing at PFC was just too strong. Any which way, he will return to the PFC midfield rotation once he passess his medical and is deemed fit to play.

Playing with two screws in his knee, The Mighty Q almost retired after the 2007 season because of a swelling and pain in his knee. But his attempts at the 2008 season proved fruitful, and his presence was immense.

Always known as the bridesmaid (playmaker), but never the bride(goalscorer), he finished the year on a high notching his first goal against Silver FC in the final regulation game of the season.

"Carlos ranks right up there with Steve Ward as one of the most committed guys on the team. He's sacrificed alot game in and game out and is someone you can really count on to be at every game," said Romerinho. "Because of his loyalty to the club, I always knew he'd return and never for a moment thought he'd be leaving for Real Madrid or FC Barcelona........never."

TORONTO - Snake bitten no more. The era of Eckleton Richards as one of a cast at striker has come to an end, as he will not be back taking kickoffs and leading the front line.

However, there is a silver lining to the story, and that is that PFC will be getting a set of quick legs that can run all game in the newly reborn Eckleton Richards the midfielder.

Thats right fans, "Cobra Commander" has made the switch from striker to midfield where his stamina and workhorse attitude should help a midfield that needs to get back quickly to support the defence.

"When Eckleton first approached me with the idea of moving to midfield, I needed some time to digest the idea," said Romerinho, "I mean Eckleton has always been a threat upfront and has scored some pretty goals. But after deliberating on it for a while, I remembered that he's shown he can get back and run hard, and bring the ball all the way back up field, so I thought let's give him his wish. His fitness is one of the tops in the squad, and he's not afraid to muscle people off the ball. He will be a fantastic addition to our midfield."

And with his abilities to ride the flanks, don't be surprised if he cuts in from the wing for a few goals.

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

TORONTO - Jay Shumski has some unfinished business to take care of.

Having suffered a recurring ankle injury in the final month of play, his final regular season game ended in disaster as he was carted off by stretcher. Succumbing to his injury, he was a no go on defence in the playoffs, which deprived the line of his speed.

But he's back for 2009 with something to prove. He's got speed, heart, skill, and come 2009 health. Coupled with Rocco, Luch, Matt Dookie and Davidinho, the Pistolas FC defence seems to be shaping up.

"Jay's a true talent who knows his role and plays it well. He's definitely one of the reliable speedsters on the backline, and having him back is fantastic," said Romerinho.

The fans in the stands will definitely be thrilled to have him back as well, as many are his die-hard supporters.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

TORONTO - Many will remember that memorable summer day when Davidinho emerged from his defensive shell to knock in two all but diving headers, showing the world he'd arrived.

Truth be told, Davidinho has actually long been with the Pistolas FC organization, and now prepares to enter his 5th season with the storied club as he rejoins in 2009.

A stalwart in the defensive midfield, and no stranger to the sweeper position when called upon, Davidinho showed a more offensive prowness this past summer and should be considered an extra clip of ammo in the Pistolas offence.

Wearing his trademark #15, fans and teammates alike will be more than happy to welcome him back to the roster.

Monday, September 8, 2008

MARKHAM - Limey's FC were in full form on Sunday as they decimated their opponents, Silver. Coasting to a 6-1 bashing, the Silver team never stood a chance. Limey's FC, a team that has been consistently strong all year long, earned a well deserved the victory and move on to the semi-finals next week.

But for both Markham teams, the Dynamo and the Crush - the top two teams during league play - it was a very close call, as they both escaped season ending losses in shootouts.

First, the Markham Crush played a tough game against perennial league contenders Solun FC - a team that lost to Pistolas FC in the 2008 semi finals, and loss to the Markham Dynamo in the 2007 finals - and when regular and extra time couldn't solve things, the shootout did.

The Markham Dynamo by all accounts squared off against an average at best team in Cornell FC, however, Cornell FC put up quite the fight and took advantage of the "Dynamo Slide" of recent weeks, forcing them to extra time and shootouts. Ultimately, the Markham Dyanamo were able to beat their former keeper of 2007, beating Cornell FC and advancing to the semi finals.

And in the wicked twist that pits a loser of the quarter-finals advance to the semi-finals, both Solun FC and Cornell FC had forced a shootout, however, Solun FC had more regular season wins, and will advance.

Ironically, Solun will play the Markham Crush in this Sundays semi-finals - a complete rematch of the quarter-finals, while in the other semi-finals, Limey's FC square off against the Markham Dynamo.

TORONTO - Defensive duo Rocco and Luch Picheca have re-signed with Pistolas FC for the 2009 season and bring back the firm wall on defence.

Rocco, now entering his third year with the club, has been the general on defence sweeping the line with his powerful voice and play. He has been the "Rock" of the defence for sure, and his return is a definite relief and a boost of confidence for the entire 2009 team.

Brother Luch joined in 2008, and did not disappoint. He had a strong year and was very defensive minded and reliable.

Above all, the brothers were committed, die-hard Pistolas who rarely missed any games and gave 100% every match.

The defence is starting to slowly shape up. Out of the 5 players already confirmed for 2009, 3 of them are defencemen. The team will need to shift its focus on the midfield and upfront in the coming weeks.

Friday, September 5, 2008

TORONTO - The G"olden" boy of the team, captain Charles Eppich, along with Steve Ward and Matt Dookie all exercised their player options and will be part of the new look 2009 Pistolas FC.

Team Captain Charles has been a key player in dealing with league officials both on and off the field, and though age (or Guiness) may have caught up to him and slowed him down later in the season, he was still rather speedy and finished the year with 6 goals on the year.

Steve Ward, the ironman record in games holder, was consistently there on the field week after week and was perhaps one of the top most committed members of the squad. His new shoes midseason appeared to do the trick, as he broke out on a streak in the latter stages of the year, and finished tied for second in scoring with 6 goals.

Matt Dookie's growth on defence continues two years in. He's been solid, chases down runs, and tackles like there's no tommorow. And never one to back down from opponents, his intimidating size often shuts them up first.

PFC will now turn its immediate attention to Keeper Mark C and Sweeper Rocco, and Eddy M.VP, all instrumental players in any success the team looks to acheive.

As for the rest of the squad, invitations to resign or tryout for next years team should be going out this week. Stay tuned.

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

TORONTO - An exciting chapter now begins for Pistolas FC as the offseason begins and a bevy of opportunities opens up to make this team more committed, more creative, more skilled, more defensive, and a hell of a lot quicker.

Having just barely missed out on the European Transfer Window which closed just yesterday, the likes of Christiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres, Benzema, Adebayor, Dani Alves, Samuel Eto, Didier Drogba, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are all locked up for the year.

But before the mad rush to sign players begins, Team Player/Owner Romerinho (formerly Mark R.), along with Co-Founders/Assistant Directors Davidinho and the Raging Bull will meet with newly appointed Assistant Director Steve Ward and Team Captain Charles Eppich to discuss the current roster situation and the direction of the club. The group of 5 will collectively assess and evaluate any possible free agent signings.

The news has already created a buzz online in chatrooms around the world and here at home. Rumours are swirling around about the possible reuniting of Andrew 'Big Laser' Eppich (Pistolas FC '07), to the lineup. And the transfer of of Julius "Jules" Auyeung from Aurora Celtic would be a massive move that builds instant street cred.

Roman 'The Rainmaker,' and Mike Saliba are among other well known names that have been thrown around as well as a standout defensive back well known to Gus.

"With so many players to scout and so many interested parties, we may have to hold a few tryouts," Romerinho said laughingly, "but invitations to our offseason scrimmages will help sort things out, " said Romerinho. "Even though we don't play again for another 8 months, the roster needs to be finalized and submitted to the league by February, which gives us only 5 short months to decide."

We here at pistolasfc.com are bursting with anticipation and excitement, so stay tuned to this website daily for any upcoming news.

TORONTO - What went wrong?

That's the question Pistolas FC and their legions of online and stadium fans are left to ask themselves over the next 8 months.

The team dubbed "built for the playoffs" had enjoyed an outstanding run during the season, and were on track to cruise through the 1st round of the playoffs and then battle it out against the other top tier teams in the league. But the loss on Sunday to 10th ranked Silver has definitely shattered a season of hopes and dreams and left an angered squad searching for reasons for the collapse.

There are many possible reasons that could have contributed to the collapse. The weeks leading up to the playoffs had a number of games in a short span of nights to makeup rained out games, and as that built up so did the tired effect causing strain and injury to some players.

"Personally, looking back, I don't think I should've played in the final three regular season games against Silver, Inter Selects and the Titans," said Team Owner-Player Mark R, "I was in the middle of physio for my hamstring and pulled it in the game against the Titans. But we were short on subs, and I just love the game, so I always showed up. It was costly in the end as I was too tight to run and was ineffective for most of the game, sitting out the majority of the second half."

Ivano and Jay Shumski also battled injuries from too many games in too little time too close to the playoffs. Jay got hurt in the final regular season game, a game in hindsight he probably should have skipped in favour of the playoffs. His speed on defence was lacking big time.

Ivano's shin splints also started within that stretch of close games and grew progressively worse. He was hurting in the final regular season game as well, finding it difficult to run period.
Could his healthy presence made a difference? Most definitely.

All of these points ultimately reflect on two key components; scheduling and team committment.

The injuries to Ivano, Shumski, Mark R, Mark C, Gus, and others, along with the late arrival of Rocco and Luch in the Round 1 playoff game was due in part to horrible scheduling. The games were scheduled too close together, not allowing muscles to heal and repair with eventually caused undue strain, tear and deep bruising. But its something that also ties into general team committment shown by some more than others that made some carry a burden of too many games and minutes.

During plenty of games, there were close calls to playing short, or playing a few games with only one or two subs. In these games the legs wore down of the aging statesmen that carried the torch all season.

One thing's for sure, amongst the strides the club has made this season, there is plenty of improvements to be made, committment being a huge factor in roster spots.

And so begins the offseason, as Pistolas FC look to retool the roster and head to the transfer market for committed, skilled, quick, fit players. Next year's roster promises to be even better than this year as the club dedicated to once again capturing the championship.

Sunday, August 31, 2008

MARKHAM - After a strong season and better play this year, Pistolas FC dropped an unlikely 4-1 loss to Silver.

Missing many quality players in Ivano, David Breau, Gus, Jay Shumski and Andrew Traetto the team didnt have many options in changing things up or trying different options.

Poorly scheduled as an early start on the the Sunday of the long weekend, the game started quickly without necessary defencemen Rocco and Luch, and Silver got out to an early 2-0 scoreline.

From there on in the game snowballed, and though the team regrouped and had good possession, it was the fitness on the counterattack that hurt the most. In this league fitness will kill you 80% of the time versus skill, and with many guys playing tired, hurt, and sore, it was tough to keep up in the scorching sun.

Eddy M.VP was the lone scorer, potting a nice one of the far post after Silver was already up 4-0. Goaltender Mark C. did his best playing with a fractured rib and was called upon with a peppering of point blank shots that were unanticipated.

Sadly, the boys will not repeat as champs this year, but will look forward to the offseason to contemplate getting fit, and revamping the roster for 2009.

TORONTO - "Raging Bull" Ivano Volpe is still suffering from shin splints, ankle and groin injuries and will unlikely play in today's match.

The injuries occured during the Inter Selects and Silver matches that were both played within the span of four days.

There is a small window of hope that he may decide come game time that he'll at least test it out, and his presence alone would at the very least contribute to the substitution situation. If he could play and provide a few short shifts even just to give the guys a break and some water, then showing up and playing would be a huge contribution.

With the weather and humidity expected to rise, it will be a scorcher and therefore substitutions will be key.

Game time is set for 4:30 pm at Mount Joy

MARKHAM - Though injury has caused some notable losses in the roster for today, plenty of the players are expected to play - some through injury - as we here at pistolasfc.com reveal our expected roster.

Firstly, it's been firmly confirmed that Jay Shumski, David Breau and Gus G. are out due to injury and contractual commitments.

On defense, Rocco will lead the crew of Matt Dookie, Luciano, Marcello, and Ronaldo.

At Midfield, Steve Ward leads a group of Eddy M, Carlos, Ivano, Davidinho and Arbi.

In the pressure cooker, Eckleton Richards returns to guide Charles, and gameday decision Mark R.

Between the posts nothing has been confirmed, but we are still hopeful in assuming that Star keeper Mark C. is will be back, rounding out the roster to 15 players.

Still, the young and fit Andrew Traetto would be welcomed back but as of Saturday night there was no word on his status. Also unconfirmed was the status of Andrew F, Eddie Moss, and Gerry.

VIVA PISTOLAS!

Saturday, August 30, 2008

MARKHAM - Late Saturday night, it was confirmed that Gus G. of the Pistolas FC Toronto would not play in Sunday's match versus Silver due to a lower back injury.

The injury, which limits his running and movement, affected him last game as well, and was visually obvious. There were strong hopes that with a weeks rest he'd be able to give a few shifts and provide an extra sub.

When healthy, Gus has proven to be one of the fitter players on the squad with plenty of stamina who can handle the run. He's versatile in both the midfield and striker position, and though he's only got one on the season this year, last year he was quite the scorer and has the ability to find the back of the net.

TORONTO - A boyhood dream. A a storied set of stars. A hope for new stars. Impossible is Nothing. And for the members of Pistolas FC, all this resonates intensively as they don on their cleats this Sunday with the task of proving doubters that Impossible is Nothing, in their quest to repeat as Centennial Cup Champions.

With the Olympic Soccer Tournament in Beijing now over, and European leagues still in the very early weeks, all attention now shifts to the MSC Centennial Cup Championship, which begins this Sunday August 31st.

More importantly, it is the do-or-die season for all clubs, and all nerves, injuries - in fact the whole season - doesn't mean a thing now, as the elimination season is just beginning.

Facing sudden death this Sunday, Pistolas FC are ready and roaring to go. Theres not much else to be said about last Sunday's meaningless game against Round 1 opponent, Silver, that hasn't already been said.

But perhaps last Sunday's loss has made the team bitter, angry, vengeful. And nothing would be more quenching than a victory to get them through to the second round. Perhaps last Sunday's hard fought loss was a blessing, a motivator, the key that would guide them as they bid to repeat as Centennial Cup Champions.

A much better team than last year, the team chemistry continues to grow. Averging out as the oldest club in the league, the team has found a passing game and organically grown into a style of their own, and allowed them to compete at the highest levels against younger, fitter teams. That style needs to be there this Sunday - and it will.

"What we need is a quick start, a quick goal, and then focus on getting the second one," said Club Director Mark, "We are definitely not taking them lightly, as they are a fit team, but we are better and we'll need to prove it on the field. Losing on Sunday really bothered a lot of the guys. They'll be ready for sure, there's no doubt about that."

With the loss of Jason Shumski, fans can anticipate some changes on defense and in the defensive midfield. Keeping the same formation thats been working all year, they'll be led by the General of Defense, Rocco, along with defensive bigmen Matt Dookie and Marcello. Other players will have to make some position changes to help out on defense, but we have experienced guys who really step up big and help the team out by playing defense. There's a number of options of guys who could play defense. Simple plan boys, get through the first round and get Shumski back.

Upfront, count on Eddy M.VP and Eckleton Richards to have great games. Filled with speed and skill, both should pose serious threats to the Silver team.

In the midfield, Ivano should be feeling better after a weeks rest, but if its anything like Mark R's ongoing hamstring, it'll be a gameday decision. Mark's hamstring will ultimately dictate where he'll play, but helping the defense at defensive midfield was a bright spot last game if he has a defensive midfield partner who can sprint back on counterattacks.

The heart is there and so is the passion. Let's bring it all to the field on Sunday.

MARKHAM - With the playoffs only 4 days away, the status of superstar keeper Mark C. is still up in the air, after suffering a cracked rib against Inter Selects last Saturday

In that game, Mark was called upon to stop a penalty kick, with the game still tied 0-0. He made a fantastic save and was quick to get up and grab the rebound from a charging striker.

Unfortunately the dive to make the save also caused a cracked rib that he felt by the end of the game. A visit to the walkin clinic later confirmed it.

He did, however, miss Sunday's game in hopes of resting and recuperating for this Sundays playoff game. He'll be a game time decision, but things are looking hopeful.

Click on the picture for a closeup of the cracked rib.

TORONTO - Steadfast defensemen Jason Shumski, and workhorse midfielder David Breau have both been ruled out for this Sunday's playoff game against Silver.

Shumski, who has been seeking physio, missed most of August after injuring his ankle in a game early in the month. He returned to play in the last 3 games but reinjured it this past Sunday. He's roaring to go in Round 2, so look for him in the stands cheering on the boys.

Breau has a contractual bind, that would rule him out not only for this match, but should PFC advance, he would also miss the next match as well. He would, however, be ready to go in the semis and finals and should be well rested by then.

MARKHAM - Well, the regular season is over and now the elimination playoffs begin. It's do or die time, and it'll take 4 wins to claim the coveted Centennial Cup Championship.

After the games were completed and the standings set, there were two ties. Pistolas FC and Limeys FC tied for 3rd overall, but in head to head action Limeys FC won both its matches against a short benched PFC squad, and therefore wins the tie breaker for third. The other tie was for 9th spot between Titans FC and Silver. Agains, Silver had won the head to head against Titans FC and claimed the 9th spot.

With that set, Pistolas FC will take on Silver in the first round of the playoffs, in a rematch of this past Sunday's game.

"Ultimately, a deep bench is crucial to winning this coming Sunday, and I expect a completely different Pistolas team than last night," said team director Mark R, "we'll have our keeper back, our scoring leader, and a host of other lethal weapons. The key for us is really a deep bench. We've now played two years together and had a great run this year. We're capable of beating any team in this league if we communicate, pass well, and get back to support our stellar defense. We have by far the best keeper in the league. We have guys coming off well desrved rest in Eckleton, Andrew T, Eddy M, Davidinho, and Ronaldo. If all goes to plan I expect a squad of 18 motivated guys this Sunday looking to seek revenge on this Silver team. There are many different options and weapons on this team, but the determination and heart is going to really be important in pulling together. Take no team lightly. Let's win this Sunday boys!"

There work will be cut out for them as they play a fit Silver squad who likes to run. They were a challenge on Sunday, and their record doesn't accurately reflect their abilities as they forfeited 5 games during the regular season.

This Sunday, 4:30 at Mount Joy, should be a hard fought battle!

VIVA PISTOLAS!

MARKHAM - After winning the last 5 straight games and 8 of their last 10, Pistolas FC dropped the last game of the regular season 2-1 to Silver.

Playing their 2nd game in 4 nights, the team looked sluggish all around showing only few signs of determination.

But with the previous game ending in a lopsided 6-1 Titans FC over Limeys FC, the boys in black weren't as pressed into a must win situation and experimented with an unusual lineup.

Of particular note was the absence of plenty of regulars including Davidinho, Ronaldo, Eckleton, Eddy 'M.VP', Andrew Traetto, and starting keeper Mark C.

Gus G. played as the third string keeper, and did well toughing through injury, coming up big with a few saves, most notably off a free kick going straight for the top corner.

Ivano and Mark R. were also battling injuries and weren't as fluent or speedy in their runs, though Mark R. - playing midfield - made some crafty runs through Silver as if the ball were on his foot with a string. Alas, what dimension could he bring if his weight and conditioning weren't an issue; one can only wonder.

And, in a goal reminicent of Argentinian Angel Di Maria's Olympic Gold Medal Winning Goal against Nigeria, Carlos Quinto pounced on a high bouncing ball, out ran the charging keeper, and ever so craftily just chipped it over him bouncing the ball into an open net.

Jason Shumski, also battling through injury, was re-injured and left the field. Hopefully a little ice will have him back next week for the start of the playoffs.

With the win and a number of other results still to be revealed, the playoff picture became a bit more cloudy, and as soon as the information is known, http://www.pistolasfc.com/ will be the first to report it here, so check back often.

Saturday, August 23, 2008

TORONTO - With Saturday's results in, there is only one game remaining on the schedule for each team before the final playoff picture is solidified.

On Saturday, Solun FC beat Limeys FC 3-1 to put Pistolas FC in 3rd position based on goals for.

The Markham Crush continued their reign as they downed Titans FC 3-0, while Pamir FC - pounded Inter Selects - catching them on their second of three games in four nights - 7-1. And as expected, Cornell FC beat the Blue Devils 3-1.

With Sundays matches remaining, Pistolas FC must win to secure 3rd as they remain tied in points with Limeys FC, and only hold 3rd by way of Goals For. A third place finish would have them square off against the 10th place team in the league in round 1 of the playoffs. A victory would be two-fold as it would also pit them against either the Silver team or Titans FC.

Sundays remaining matches at include 5:00pm Markham Crush vs. Blue Devils; 7:00pm Pamir FC vs Markham Dynamo; and 9:00pm Cornell FC vs. Solun FC, all at Centennial Field, while at Mount Joy Field at 5:00pm Limeys FC vs. Titans FC; 7:00pm Pistolas FC vs. Silver; and the last game of the year, 9:00 Those Guys vs. Inter Selects.

It should be a great finish to an awesome season.

Check the standings, look at the games above and try to figure out the playyoff picture yourself!

MARKHAM - Two 'Magical Men of Mayhem' were pulling out the tricks last night, as Eddy M. and Mark C. led the Pistolas to their latest victory.

Eddy 'M.VP' didn't need many games to return to his All Star form as he netted a hat trick. With 5 goals in his last two games, you'd never know he was injured all these weeks.

Mark C. has also been strong of late, stopping a penalty shot, snapping up the rebound, and making leaping save after save on some poorly called free kicks just outside the box (does the ref have something against Marcello?? Because all the whistles seemed to go unfairly against him!). With his third straight shutout, he now boasts 5 on the year.

The rest of the team played well at all positions, and showed once again that they are a team with the experience of playing together - by far the biggest advantage thats shown itself game after game.

Winner of their last 5 straight games, they've also won 8 of their last 10. After last nights victory, the Pistolas are guaranteed to finish 4th with a chance at 3rd still in reach. 5th spot Solun FC are down 7pts on PFC and have only two remaining games, thus they cannot catch them. It will all depend on how Limeys FC play against Solun FC on Saturday and Titans FC on Sunday.

8 teams are in action on Saturday and the playoff picture will start to shape up better after those results are in. Pamir FC plays Inter Selects, Cornell vs. Blue Devils, Markham Crush vs. Titans FC, and the aforementioned Limeys FC vs. Solun FC.

With the bottom tier of teams ever so close with many tied at 14pts, its hard to guess who might end up where in the final standings. If the playoffs were to start today, Pistolas FC would play Silver - the team they play this coming Sunday in the last game of the season. But there is a strong possibility they could face one of the following teams; Silver, Cornell FC, Titans FC, Inter Selects or Pamir FC.

This weekend will be one you'll definitely not want to miss.

TORONTO - It has been a very different year in the world of Pistolas FC.

Last year, the team finished in 8th out of 10 teams, struggling in the league, before gelling late in the season and late into the playoffs culminating with winning the championship.

But this year the team has enjoyed some league success, and after a slow first four games, have rebounded strong and won their last 4 straight and 7 of their last 9 games. They are battling for third seed with two games remaining and it's all because of goals.

Last year, finding the net was a huge problem. This year, the team boasts 9 different scorers - 6 of them multiple scorers.

It also boasts a heavy up top scoring lead with 3 guys tied for 1st in the scoring race with 6 goals a piece. Charles, Eddy M., and Steve Ward have all been instrumental in team scoring and with such a close race any of them can win.

It is definitely where the team wants to be right now and it's nice to have options - a wealth of players that can score. To top that off, there are still a number of players bursting with potential to score as well such as Carlos, Ivano, Shumski, Ronaldo and Breau just to name a few.

Any which way you look at it, the team has definitely improved, and the goals keep flowing.

VIVA PISTOLAS!

MARKHAM - The Markham Crush have emerged as the new leaders of the league after downing the Markham Dynamo 2-0 in a battle for first place.

After a surge to the top with 11 straight victories, the Markham Dynamo have gone winless in their last four games, dropping the last three straight. In only two of those matches did the Dynamo field a short bench, so the questions are starting to arise.

In the other Tuesday match, the ever strong Solun FC dropped their match 4-2 to unlikely spoilers Pamir FC. The loss was huge as now Solun FC have completed the same number of games as the rest of the league, and are a comfortable 4 points behind Pistolas FC in the standings.

Which sets up an interesting week for Inter Selects. The only team not to have played 14 games yet, Inter Selects has 3 matches in the next 4 days, playing tonight against Pistolas FC and then again on Saturday and Sunday.

With the Dynamo having now completed 15 of 16 games, they are now 2 points behind the Crush, and will probably finish 2nd overall with the Crush taking the league title.

The battle for third place is still on with a tight race between PFC who trail Limeys FC by 3 points with only 2 matches to go. Limeys FC square off against what is hopefully a more competitive Solun FC team on Saturday and finish off against Pamir FC, while the Pistolas face Inter Selects tonight, and Silver on Sunday.

TORONTO - Star midfeilder and header extrodinaire Davidinho will miss the rest of the season and hopes to be back for the playoffs after injuring his tailbone in Saturday's game against Titnas FC.

Already having missed Sundays game against the Dynamos, Davidinho was involved in a first half collision that sent him to the ground, landing on his tailbone causing serious pain.

"I've been advised by Pistolas FC medical staff to not play for a month," chuckled Davidinho, "which really means I hope to be back August 31st for the playoffs."

He will miss tonights game against Inter Selects, as well as Sundays game against Silver which he had already planned to miss due to international commitments. Surely we'll need a strong crew on both these days to replace his presence.

Don't forget fans, tonights game, Thursday August 21st, 7:00pm at Centennial Field.

MARKHAM - The man from center-mid made his presence known this weekend, using his new boots to pot 4 goals in two games, leading Pistolas FC to victories over Titans FC and the Markham Dynamo.

It all started Saturday, in a makeup game versus Titans FC. In a must win attitude, the team came out gunning, and finally capitalized on Arbi's stop, setup, and shoot goal that got PFC on the board 1-0.

Next, it was Steve who launched an evercurling shot high into the mesh for his first of the game. His second would look eerily similar, and was just as effective. Charles 'The Chances' Eppich was also instrumental in what clearly looked like he forced an own goal by pushing his dancing partner from the other team, but was later credited with the goal.

Mark C. was solid as usual called upon when needed to garner his 3rd cleam sheet on the year.

With a 4-0 win under their belt, PFC looked to the next nights game against the highly acclaimed Markham Dynamo.

But the game against Titans FC didn't come without a cost. Striker Mark R. re-injured a nagging hamstring injury and was ineffective upfront, but had fun playing spots at mid; he was unable to attend Sundays game as a result. Midfielders Davidinho and Ivano were also hurt, re-injuring their ankles and groins (seperately) though their game play wouldve never shown it; they were unavailable on Sunday as well. And captain Charles himself was also a 'no go' citing the need to practice hitting the target.

However, Sunday did have asurprise visitor from newlywed Eckelton Richards (Congrats!) who has regained his scoring touch and did it again against the Dynamo.

Eddy MVP was also back this weekend and after a gutsy performance on Saturday, and well advised rest during the second half, Eddy came out firing on Sunday notching two goals in his usual rhythym.

The Steve Ward story continued as well, as he tallied 2 more goals in a thrilling 5-0 victory over the Markham Dynamo.

Mark C. posted his second consecutive shutout and raised his tally of clean sheets on the year to 4.

The victories were huge this weekend and with two more on the schedule before the playoffs, PFC will have to win them to control their own playoff destiny.

Playing their 3rd game in 6 nights, Pistolas FC will square off against Inter Selects this Thursday August 21st, 7:00pm, at Centennial Field.

Thursday, August 14, 2008

MARKHAM - The game this Saturday August 16th between Pistolas FC and Titans FC will be played at 1:00pm at Mount Joy Field.

Home to a few key wins this season, PFC hopes to field a strong squad with subs, in order to take down th Titans FC.

The late notice, however, has caused some scheduling problems for some players, but the team is hopeful that more than a few will be ready to go.

"I hope we can get at least 14 or 15 guys, simply because we need the substitutions so that those playing on both days dont exhaust themselves on the Saturday. Sunday is a big, big game, and we cant afford to be worn out against the Dynamo, especially since they dont play on the Saturday. And last game against the Blue Devils we only had 11 guys. We fought tough in a come from behind win, but nobody wants to play in that type of situation again, " said Mark R.

MARKHAM - Word broke early this morning, that the previously rained out August 10th game versus Titans FC, will be played this Saturday at 1:00pm, at a yet to de determined field.

This makes it another heavy weekend as Pistolas FC also square off at 6:45pm on Sunday versus the Markham Dynamo.

Stay tuned to www.pistolasfc.com for more breaking news throughout the day.

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

MOUNT JOY - This past Saturday marked the rematch games from those rained out earlier in the season, and though the rain poured the entire day all but two matches played leaving in its wake an interesting result.

Both the PFC vs. Inter Selects and the Pamir FC vs. Solun FC were cancelled on Saturday, citing poor filed conditions from the combination of rain and previous matches. These games will be rescheduled at a later date (as of yet not determined).

In the other games, Titans FC (whom PFC was supposed to play this past Sunday) cruised in victory over Cornell FC by a score of 3-1. The Titans are not to be underestimated by any means as they have been known to come with plenty of goals from time to time, as PFC remember last years 6-4 opening season loss. The rematch in a makeup game should be one to watch.

Second place Markham Crush took on Silver only to squeak by with a score of 1-0. Dont underestimate this Silver team, because even though they lost, they have also showed flashes of brilliance this year and allowing only one against a team like the Crush shows their defensive resolve.

Powerhouse Limeys FC, fresh off a tie with the first place Markham Dynamos took on the lowly, winless Blue Devils, but the powerhouse team known for its goals, only edged the boys in blue by a score of 1-0.

And in the match of the weekend, the highly acclaimed Markham Dynamos conceeded their first loss of the season, dropping a 2-0 decision to Those Guys FC. This interesting scoreline raises many questions and stirs many rumours, like whether or not they had subs, fielded a full team, or perhaps if a some of their players returned to their university dorms around the world. In any which case it will make the battle between PFC and the Dynamo more intense as the Dynamo are winless in their last two games and will be looking for blood.

Back at the PFC Camp, the team is already gearing up for this game, and are happy to welcome Jay back to the lineup after an ankle injury kept him out for most parts of the month. Also, there is hope for Eddy MVP to return this weekend. Many will remember him as the guy who inflicted the final dagger into the Dynamo in last years finals, to win the Centennial Cup.

This Sundays match also pits the teams back to last years field, Markham District High School North Field, and at 6:45pm.

This is the game to watch this season.

TORONTO - In the shadows of Toronto's MLS team, Toronto FC, is an ever growing phenomenon that is Pistolas FC Toronto. But now PFC is starting to garner attention and has been classed as one of the 5 Official Club Sites listed on Football-Linx.com.

Pistolas FC Toronto now joins fellow Official Canadian clubs, the Montreal Impact, Vancouver Whitecaps, Toronto Lynx, and Ottawa Fury - read on - http://www.football-linx.com/clubs/canada.htm.

With the Toronto Lynx out of the picture, the other three clubs have been rumoured as names on the shortlist for MLS expansion, with the Impact and Whitecaps garnering serious and well deserved consideration but is their room in the long term for a second Toronto team?

One only has to watch a Toronto FC game or venture down to BMO Field in person to see what kind of rabid futbol fans Toronto has, and would definitely be a market quite capable of handling more than one futbol franchise, comparable to the number of teams in London, England.

PFC fans and administration alike would like nothing more than to grow into a sizeable organization so that somewhere down the line, perhaps their could be a bid for a second Toronto team - a Pistolas FC Toronto team - that the heroes of tommorow from around the world would give anything to play for. I'll give it about a decade. For now, just stay tuned.

Sunday, August 10, 2008

MARKHAM - The torrential rains continued their downpour this weekend rendering the field conditions completely unplayable.

After yesterdays game against the Inter Selects was postponed, many were optimistic that todays 5:00 Sunday August 10th game against the Titans FC would be something to look forward to. But the fields resembled a swamp - better yet, a wading pool and were in no condition to be used.

This means these two games will have to be made up within the next two weeks as the playoffs start August 31st.

Start looking ahead to next Sunday though, as Pistolas FC play the Markham Dynamos in a rematch of last years Centennial Cup Championship game, won of course by PFC.

Saturday, August 9, 2008

TORONTO - The story of the summer has been the ever falling rain. And it reared its ugly head for the third time this season on the Pistolas.

Having waited weeks to play Cornell FC after a rain out, Pistolas FC was involved in a makeup game only 2 weeks ago. And only 3 weeks ago, the regularly scheduled game versus Inter Selects was rained out leading to todays makeup game.

Alas, we'll have to wait yet another time when PFC and Inter Selects square off against one another.

The much awaited match carries a lot of hype as it pits the triumvirate of Mark R., Davidinho, and Ivano against former teammates Cody, Steve, Maurizio and Carmen.

TORONTO - In late breaking news this evening, Pistolas FC officially announced the launching of its very own fan forum.

"In a response from players and fans alike, PFC decided now was the time to launch an interactive forum where we can get some fun filled discussions and debates going on," said the team Director. "We've noticed that nobody was commenting on the articles on the official website for whatever reason, but a forum provides a more interactive discussion, and allows the players and fans alike to start discussion. It should be a great experience for all!"

And without further adu, here the FORUM.

Friday, August 8, 2008

TORONTO - It was a devastating Sunday afternoon way back on June 29th when star player Eddy "M.VP" went down with a horrific knee injury. The concern was over his well being first and foremost as it was clear he wouldn't be back playing anytime soon.

But breaking news today from the Forestieri camp, has Eddy returning this weekend to contribute as best as he can. His timing cou;dn't have been better as the team faces some serious roster crunches for both Saturday and Sunday.

Having Eddy back will help in more ways than one as he can play a multitude of positions including keeper if need be, or in case his fitness isn't quite there yet.

"This news comes as a much welcomed shock," said Mark R., "of course our concern is for him and that he doesn't risk further injury. But I'm sure Eddy knows his body well and will know exactly how much he can give or whether or not he needs to rest. Speaking on behalf of the team I can say we're all ecstatic to have him back!"

TORONTO - Team leading goal scorer Charles, has been in an 'Epic' goalscoring drought since he first broke mesh way back in May.

Leading the team with 5 goals on the season, Charles scored in the opening game back on May 11th, before tearing it up in June scoring 4 goals - a goal a game - in 4 straight weeks starting on June 8th.

But his last goal was on June 29th - well over 7 weeks ago - and the fans are starting to blog and wonder when he'll regain his scoring touch.

Charles and the Pistolas will take on lower ranked - but nevertheless dangerous - Inter Selects and the Titans this weekend. Let's all hope he knock one in the mesh and end this drought.

MARKHAM - Another Sunday. Another hero was born.

After writhing through the fields for the past 12 weeks, snake bitten without a goal, Eckleton the 'King Cobra' came out slithering and hissing on Sunday, attacking with both fangs as he struck for two glorious goals to lead Pistolas FC to a strong victory over talented rivals Solun FC.

It was a well fought victory by the entire team, as all members stepped up their level of play collectively against the best team they've faced all season.

Defensively, PFC was in a class of its own yesterday led by keep Mark C. who was making the impossible saves early on and throughout, and was called upon to make dashing runs and calls for the ball while avoiding collision with the steamrolling opposition.

PFC struck early off an indirect free kick when Mark R. fooled the wall and executed a set play when he chipped the ball over the defence onto a running Eckleton, who buried it past the keeper.

After some equal ball possession and chances, Solun put one on the board on a controversial goal, as there was contact with the PFC net minder.

The boys responded with some good passing, and smart plays. Brothers Davidinho and Ronaldo were ever crafty, while the other brother pair of Rocco and Luch were stalwarts on defence. Matt Dookie was his usual dominant force to be reckoned with and was even involved in a second half kerfuffle that was just short of turning into a melee.

Carlos, Steve, and Gus provided midfield presence and matched Solun's passing with some work of their own. And it was the Raging Bull Ivano who - in an identical play from game 1 - cut in from the side and sprang the ball into space for a running Mark R. who fired a cracker right through the keeper into the upper echelon of the mesh. Then on an ensuing play, Mark R. beat the keeper only to hit the post and have the ball cleared out.

But this day belonged to the 'Cobra.' And after Solun scored their second goal, in what has been a trend of "Let's-see-you-do-that-twice-in-a-row" type of fluke goals, the Cobra sprinted onwards on a rush outpacing, outhustling and out working the Solun defence to the ball before catching the keeper off his mark and skilfully placing it so gently but firmly into the far corner.

And with that, the venom sank in.

Sunday, July 20, 2008

MARKHAM - As has become a staple of Sunday's this summer, Sunday rain has reared its ugly head again and forced the cancellation of all games league wide, including the highly anticipated crossover match between Pistolas FC at Inter Selects.

In what was suppossed to be the first of the crossover division matches, will now be postponed until a rematch game can be scheduled for one Saturday in August.

Which leads to a very big upcoming weekend when Pistolas FC play back to back games this weekend finishing off their division games in a makeup game against Cornell FC on Saturday July 26th, followed by a tough match against last years semi-final rivals Solun FC on Sunday July 27th.

PFC opened the season against Cornell FC with a 2-0 win - in the rain, and the boys in gold have had their troubles ever since. But Cornell can't be taken lightly as they prepare and show up in force with a full roster hungry for a win.

Solun FC was last years green team. A rough bunch last year, their roster has seen a big overhaul, with the core players remaining. Despite their record, and with 2 games in hand, these guys are still in the league race and will be an especially tough match having played Cornell the night before.

Any which way, it should definitely be an exciting weekend of futbol for Pistolas FC.

Saturday July 26th, 4:00pm Pistolas FC vs. Cornell FC

Sunday July 27th, 5:00pm Pistolas FC vs. Solun FC

Friday, July 18, 2008

MARKHAM - What started off as a mismatch, soon turned into a nightmare, before Pistolas FC soon reloaded and fired a late goal over Those Guys FC 2-1.

The game started with Those Guys only fielding 8 players, but PFC failed to capitalize on the advantage and played slow and lacklustre, a tendency they seem to have playing at the level of their competition. In fact goalie Mark C. was forced to come up big right away as the opening rush ended in offense for the team in teal.

Suddenly a glimer of hope came in the first half when Rocco stood to take a penalty kick just as a 9th member of the opposition began suiting up on the sidelines. The spot kick was perfect, hitting the top left corner with no chance for the netminder. But then, in a flurry of confusion, the goal was waved off with the referee citing another one of our players was in the box. A few days after the game it was confirmed that according to the rules, it should have been a retake and not simply waived off and the ball awarded to the other team.

Then PFC began getting into a groove, and a blast by Gus G. was saved by the keeper only to redirect it unto a desperate Eckleton R. who headed the ball towards the open net but hit the crossbar. King Cobra strikes again!

But a series of flurries eventually ended with a scramble in the box where Ivano V. passed a ball through and Steve W. hamered home the opening tally. 1-0 good guys.

Those Guys would not give up, and kept up their chances and fight. Then, midway through the second half, one of their players - who had already gone down in the game with cramps - went down in the box untouched, and on a horrible call, a penalty was given. On the ensuing kick, Mark C. dove correctly, but the ball just slipped under, tieing the game at one a piece.

As PFC regrouped, they began controlling the ball better and started their own waves of offense. A tie would just not suffice. However, in a counterattack, the best player on Those Guys raced down the right flank only to be robbed by Mark C. in the play of the game. Being down 2-1 would have seriously changed the game and would have ranked as an embarassing loss.

Still tied, the boys pressured again and with only minutes left, Gus G. nailed home the winner to seal the victory.

With the victory, the boys move into a tie for 4th with a game in hand. Winners of 3 of their last 4 games, they end the first half of the season 4-4-1 against teams in their division (with one makeup game still to be played).

Pistolas FC now begin a road swing at Mount Joy Field against teams from the Eastern Conference. They begin this Sunday at 9:00pm against the Inter-Selects a team with few losses and goals against. It will be a tough battle for sure.

Tuesday, July 8, 2008

TORONTO - Reminiscent of last year, the 2008 Pistolas appear to have needed a few weeks of working in their legs playing together to develop some sort of cohesion, and if recent weeks are a telling sign, they are beginning to progressively gel nicely at midseason.

In the first 5 games of this season, the team only had 1 win and sat in the bottom 3 of the standings. They also had a lack of scoring, potting only 6 goals in 5 games.

But in the last 3 weeks, they've won 2 out of 3, beating previously undefeated Markham Crush to the tune of 3-1, and trouncing Pamir Fc 3-0. In this span of three games, they also scored 7 goals from 4 different goalscorers.

Sunday's victory also put them in a tie for 4th place in the league along with Inter Selects, both with 10 points on the year.

This Sunday's game pits them against Those Guys, currently in 3rd place, but beatable nonetheless. A makeup game against Cornell FC is also due sometime in the near future and most likely before they start to take on teams from the other division.

Let's hope this promising turn of events continues.

MARKHAM - Like Paulo Rossi in '82, Schillaci in 1990 - or David Villa in Euro 2008, a goalscoring machine awoke from the team of sleeping giants this past Sunday, to lead Pistolas FC to victory; and his name is - Davidinho.

Hungry for a win and without their team MVP Eddy, PFC faced tough mental challenges. Up against Pamir FC, they were haunted by the last time these two teams met where Pamir tied the game with one minute left to play. This time PFC wanted just revenge.

Having only 13 players on game day (from a roster of 23) the Pistolas came out blazing showing some dominant ball possesion. The defensive three formation with turns by Rocco, Jason, Dookie, and Marcello did well in holding the back fort and pushing the ball up to the mids.

In the midfield, Steve, Ivano, Gus, Carlos, Luch, and hero Davidinho created plays and played keep away for a majority of the 1st half, culminating on chance that led to a corner.

On that ensuing corner kick, Davidinho, a defensive midfielder, ran in from the box in a perfectly timed run to the outside post that ended with a direct header right into the top right corner.

The end of the first half, however, got sloppy as Pamir began pressing and PFC was getting away from their passing dominance.

The second half was a return to form, as the boys in black pressed onwards and defended well. Carlos made some brilliant runs from the midfield, and though he's still waiting for his first goal of the year, Eckleton once again brought his 'A' game, outhustling and outmuscling the opposition to create chances and make plays.

"Ecks was playing fierce out there today, really pushing into guys and getting the ball," said the Raging Bull.

"You gotta love the way this guy plays. He's hungry and he'll work and outwork the other teams. Nice to seem him get more aggresive and show toughness out there," said Mark R.

And in fact it was an ingenious Eckleton freekick just inside the corner kick marker that accurately picked out the head of Davidinho, who sneakily appeared in the crease completely unmarked and baffled the keeper with a beautiful flick on header that again caught the top right corner.

After a flurry of chances from Eckleton and Carlos, it was Charles who had some chances. A post and crossbar were hit in a 10 minute barrage of chances by the trio.

Then, in the 78th minute, Mark R. took hold of his second breakaway of the game and provided a little chip over the keeper that snuck under the bar to break him out of his goal slump.

But the game didnt end there. In the final minutes, Pamir pressed deep into the box in a flurry of chances that keeper Mark C. saved repeatedly to go with an impressive game of saves and security. Again the defense stepped up to support as the crowd and players all gasped hoping he'd retain the much deserved cleansheet. And he did, keeping the ball out for 90 solid minutes to earn his second shutout of the year to tie for 1st place in that category.

A 3-0 final was a much deserved victory for the boys.

MARKHAM - At the start of this Sunday's game it was confirmed that Eddy 'MVP' Megurian would be out indfinitely after suffering a horrible injury in the game versus Limeys FC.

Though initially it was thought that the injury occured when Eddy and a member of the opposition both went in hard on a ball, it turns out that it wasn't until Eddy stood up in the pitted eight inch long grass did the horrible field conditions pop his knee out.

One can only hope that this injury isn't as serious and that he'll be able to recover and walk pain free over these next few days and weeks. The team sends all their best for a speedy recovery.

As for playing, it is likely that he'll be gone for the season, but never count this champion out.

MARKHAM - Pistolas FC came out blazing on Sunday and avenged an earlier loss to the previously undefeated Markham Crush striking a 3-1 victory.

Though the game started off only 10 versus 9 at kickoff, players on both sides soon trickled in leaving PFC with a bench of 3 while the Crush had 5 subs.

But using some short, nice, passes, the lads were able to string together some offensive opportunities and maintained good possession on the ball. Avid www.pistolasfc.com reader Eckleton, had a much needed and welcomed return - as did Andrew T., as both these two fit and skilled players made key plays all game.

MVP Eddy was at his best as usual, striking home the opening tally before crossing a pass into the box where the ball got purposely manhandled by a defender, leading to a spot kick which again Eddy buried with more ease than the Italian team just moments earlier at another field.

The change in formation to only three defenders worked wonders as the 5 midfielders allowed for more offense as well as more coverage in getting back. Rocco, Luciano, and Dookie were solid throughout the game on defense while the "Ragin Bull" Ivano, Steve, and Carlos made great passes and plays at midfield.

Considering we were without key players like Davidinho, David B, Gus, Jason, and Ronaldo and only having three subs, the team gelled and showed it could win against any team.

But the victory was marred by a lopsided rash of yellow cards that eventually led to the sending off of Mark R. with a red card. In total 7 yellows and 1 red card were issued. In addition, Gerry picked up his 3rd yellow of the season which means he will also miss the next game along side Mark due to suspension. The frustration lies in the fact that the team was unjustly called for cards often cited by the referee as retaliation. Well, perhaps if the referee did his job there wouldn't be any retaliating!

Having now amassed 10 yellows and 2 red cards in only 6 games played, the team now faces team fines in addition to player fines.

And now, as the long weekend looms, both suspensions and personal commitments may render the team short on subs for this Sunday's match.

But the team has found a fit, skilled player in 'Daniel' who is close to signing and hopes to debut this Sunday. His potential and capabilities are definitely going to improve the team.

STOUFFVILLE - Just like the clouds of rain in June, new signee Roman is gone for the season.

Ready to go two weeks ago against Cornell FC, his debut was doused by thunderstorms. Then, in a Saturday scrimmage this past weekend, in preparation for Sunday's match, he sufferred a mysterious fitness injury that has rendered him gone for the season.

Never getting a chance to play this season, he is committed to rehabilitating his injury in the offseason in hopes cracking the roster next year.

MARKHAM - All but the two early 5 o'clock games were rained out this past Sunday, ruining PFC's plans to regain some momentum against Cornell FC - a team they opened the season against with a 2-0 victory.

The storms were teasing, starting with a violent wind and rain coupled with lightning all around, and were gone within 15 minutes. However, 15 minutes later they returned, and the process repeated itself all night.

New Pistolas FC member, and former star player, Roman "The Rainmaker" Prsa was roaring to go. His experience and skill should help in the midfield where he looks to return tp the match fitness of his youth. His presence will also help on a much depleted bench full of woes ranging from injuries, age, fitness, and other commitments. Luckily, Roman can play all positions and has a cracker of a shot - with accuracy - for up front. He'll debut this Sunday.

And PFC will need his and everyones presence this Sunday as the team has their work cut out for them against the undefeated Markham Crush. Tied for first in the league and ranked first in the division, the Markham Crush bring 15 points from 5 games, and 10 goals for while only conceding 4.

The last battle between these two teams was tight, with the Markham Crush sqeauking away with a 2-1 victory on a rough deflected goal.

Sunday also marks the Quarterfinal game between Spain and Italy at Euro 2008. Since that game should end at 4:45 ahead of the pistolas FC 5:00 game, Pistolas FC members will meet at The Duchess to watch the game since it's close by to the Field and no one is late.

Both games should be great!

MARKHAM - PFC played in sweltering humidity reaching 37 degrees this past Sunday, and could not contain Those Guys for 90 minutes, blowing a 1-0 lead in the first half.

At first it seemed as if things were going to ease up this game as Mark R. received a great pass, dribbled into the box to the goaline before feeding Charles E. for an easy touch. But from there things went downhill.

First, an errant clearance in the PFC end led to a fluke shot that caught the far post and went in, leaving the game tied at the half. 1-1.

The second half was disaster in more ways than one. First, a floater dipped down just under the bar to put Those Guys up 2-1.

Then, moments later, Charles E. received a yellow card for an innocent tackle in the offensive zone, officially making PFC the most carded team in the league.

Following that, a bad bounce in the box eventually made its way to the foot of Jason S., only for the other team to stop playing and cry for a handball - that was awarded after a long delay - though both the referee and linesman were in no position to tell.

Then, without even seeing a yellow, Marcello received a straight Red Card for abuse of the official after telling him to (and I'm paraphrasing) "Go 'do something' to himself" Another card tallied to the team total.

The loss, however, puts the Pistolas only 3 points out of 4th place in the league. The team can't wait for the return of Andrew T, Eckleton, Gus and Andrew F, but it was good to have Ron F. and David B. back in the lineup.

The team takes on Cornell FC next Sunday at 7pm from Centennial Field. The last time these two teams met, PFC were victorious 2-0, so anticipate a much tighter and tougher game.

TORONTO - Pistolas FC has reached just over 3000 online fans, and the crowds at games are expected to grow as the Summer weather finally arrives this Sunday, with projected highs of 22C.

The ever growing number of of visits to the website has also landed the team at number 216 - the highest ever for the team - in the top 300 Soccer Websites of the world as ranked by SoccerLinks.net's Hit List Counter.

"There are a number of good things going on here at PFC, and the online community is definitely taking notice," said the Director of PFC, "in fact famed internet sensation Technorati.com has even picked up the unveiling of the PFC Channel, and it comes right above the article on General Motors (http://technorati.com/tag/FCTV). That's impressive!"

'PFC at BMO Field' was also picked up by many video websites, and a Google search for "Pistolas FC" now yelds 245 results - all about the team but many of which dont come directly from the Director or staff at all.

"We're happy with the direction things are moving in and the interest from fans. More emails are asking for video footage of games - and these are coming from around the world. It's a fun time right now."

And with heavy interest in the free franchise opportunities, there are aspirations to grow this amateur sensation even more.

In the meantime fans, be sure to check out the latest Pistolas FC Warmup Jackets at the Pistolas FC Official Store, available in both Black and White and emblazoned at the back with the team name, and available here: http://119712.spreadshirt.com/us/US/Shop/

MARKHAM - It was a rigid cold May 18th with temperatures hovering around the 4 degree celcius mark during pregame warmups, and a thin film of rain to start at kickoff.

A tussle from the get go, Markham Crush scored two rather early, lucky goals in the first half thanks to the wind and a lucky bounce. But MVP Eddy M., continued his dominance from last year, and on a nifty drive, buried one in the back twine, to tie him for the team lead in goals.

The team lacked their usual punch and finesse and never really got anything going in terms of fluid movement or rythym. The only had three quality chances the rest of the game when Mark R. cracked a shot of a sailing corner kick that somehow the keeper saved, followed by Charles' floater caught by the wind just before careening off the crossbar, and finally a shifting run by Mark R. to position himself infront of the net only to fan on the shot.

"We were just lacking cohesion today," said The Bull who played despite his ongoing injury. "We just didn't get enough shots off," chimed in Mark R. who continued, "this will definitely be a tough week to recover from, but we've got to bounce back, play as a team, a deliver a strong effort come Sunday."

Around the league parity seemed to even out the standings, and Solun FC showed that they are still the tough team from last year. They lost only by a goal to the Markham Red Dynamos falling 3-2. The Dynamos were the team that last week won 10-1.

The Inter Selects featuring Cody won 1-0 over Silver, Those Guys and Pamir FC drew 3-3, the Titans squeaked by the Royals 3-2, while Cornell FC won 3-0 over Limey's FC. Of course, the long weekend has to be taken into consideration for some squads fielding a shorter bench.

Pistolas FC play Limey's FC next Sunday at 9:00pm. The two teams are tied with three points, after PFc beat Cornell in week one, while Limeys FC beat those guys in week one.

TORONTO - The 2008 Pistolas FC logo was unveiled on Saturday night to much fanfare.

The first biggest change came in the way of team colours, as the team moved towards the black and orange crest.

The other more notable change in the design, was the inclusion of the star, centered just above the team crest to commemorate the Inaugural 2007 Championship Win.

With growth in both the league level and team level, PFC hopes to add many future championship stars to their crest.

They'll continue their 2008 campaign later today versus the Markham Crush.

TORONTO - The final tally is in and it's clear that the population expects big things from this years Pistolas FC squad.

An overwhelming 78% thought that the boys in black would repeat as champions, while 13% thought it would be tough but possible.

Stay tuned shortly for the next poll, which should prove to be exciting and a fun race to watch!

MARKHAM - What a start to the season, as there was only one draw on Sunday and 5 wins, leading to 5 way tie for first.

Last years undefeated team, the Markham Blues - who lost in the finals of the Centennial Cup to the Pistolas FC, made some changes in the offseason, dumping their keeper (now with Cornell FC) in favour of a new one, and tweaking their lineup. They also dumped their name and jersey colours, and have reinvented themselves as the Red Markham Dynamos.

The Dynamos are once again a force to be reckoned with, and were left with a bad taste in their mouth from losing the Centennial Cup, that they took out their aggression on this years blue jersey team, the Royals, trouncing them by a score of 10-1. PFC fans, circle August 17th on your calendar - the second last game of the regular season - as it is the only time in the regular season that PFC squares off againt the Dynamos.

Also, a rebuilt Solun FC, brings back a returning cast with a few changes and white uniforms. They squeaked out a 4-3 victory over Silver. A nemesis of last year, they too are in the other division and only square of against PFC once in the regular season on July 27th.

This Sunday's opponent, Markham Crush opened their season with a 3-2 victory over Pamir FC, and will go head to head with Pistolas FC in a battle of undefeated teams.

Rounding out the rest of the games:

Limey's FC won 3-2 versus Those Guys, and the Titans FC tied 1-1 with the Inter Selects.

TORONTO - Star midfielder Ivano "The Raging Bull" may sit this Sunday due to "Elephantitis" of his left ankle.

The injury, suffered at BMO, happened when he rolled it on a routine play back on April 29th. A week later he showed up at the local Tim Horton's still sporting the injury and what resembled to be one human ankle and one from that of an elephant.

Nevertheless, the "Bull" played this past Sunday and his efforts showed no signs of injury. He even contributed on the insurance goal after winning the ball, making a strong run, and then feeding it on. Afterwards, however, was an entirely different story, as he was in clear signs of pain - playing on only as the heart of a champion would.

"I may get x-rays done," he said earlier this week causing concern at camp, "but I'm still hoping to go come Sunday."

And that's why they call him the "Raging Bull". Enough said.

MARKHAM - Reigning champions Pistolas F.C. picked up where they left off last season - on a winning note - taking the season opener from Cornell F.C. by a score of 2-0.

Amidst cool and wet temperatures, coupled with a less than ideal playing field, the squad came out from the onset and immediately started the pressure led by David B. who played his usual power game full of force and strength - somebody give this guy a nickname already!

As a unit, the entire defensive back was outstanding, led by the general, Rocco, Dave F., Matt D., and the wheels of Jason S.

Newcomers Luciano, Gerry also had an impact as the team learned Luciano is as consistent in positioning as Rocco, while Gerry's ball handling and sense of the game almost led to a goal on a nifty chip play that was over the keepers head and just over the bar.

In goal, newcomer Mark C. was a welcomed addition bringing the experience and knowledge of calling plays and making quality grabs. His big test came on Cornell's big chance, a second half cross that Mark fielded in a great save which led to his first shutout of the season.

In the midfield, Steve Ward had quite some moves. while Arbi consitently helped out the strikers pushing forward. Newbie Andrew T., definitely showed signs of promise. After starting at striker, the well conditioned youngster dropped to mid, where his stamina and running ability added to a few plays.

The game was won early in the match when in the 15th minute, Charles E. put a left foot touch to a cross, off the post and in. With quite a few chances, Gus and Eckleton also struck well at striker with Eckleton coming oh so close in a cross through the crease that just got away from him.

MVP Eddy M. was outstanding as usual, feeding great passes and drawing in defenders. A perfect feed through ball in the second half to Mark R. was a highlight pass splitting the defence onto the speeding runner cutting from the flank to the center.

But the story of the night fell to the "Raging Bull" Ivano V., who playing with a hurt ankle was tough on the ball all night and played through the pain. Then on a typical 'Bull' run in the second half , the right midfielder looked up to catch Mark R., open with some space to his left. Feeding the ball professionally into the space, Mark R. chased it down, made a run, before firing a bullet from outside the 18 yard box rifling it past the goalie into the top left corner. A definite 'Goal of the Year' candidate, it was a fitting end to a well played team effort.

The team was without Ronaldo, (who just had a baby boy 2 hours before game time congratulations!), Eddie Moss, Andrew 'The Kid', and injured players Carlos Q., and Marcello M.

The team plays next this Sunday May 18th at 5:00pm at their home field Centennial Field, up against the Markham Crush.
